Meshuggah (meaning “crazy” in Yiddish), bagels make you forget where you are and transport you to the streets of NYC. Their bagels are fresh, kosher and pair well with any topping. Their whitefish salad topping is a flavor party in your mouth. I thought it had to be a magical recipe, but when asked what was in this whitefish spread the pleasant store clerk said it is simply smoked whitefish and a little bit of mayo. And I thought I didn’t like mayo. Until now.
In fact, the spread is so good it had me devouring a whole-wheat bagel, crunchy on the outside and deliciously soft and moist on the inside (don’t let the word “moist” scare you), topped with whitefish for breakfast. I was so overcome with excitement over my new found love for this whitefish that I almost bought a 6oz container of it (which they offer because they understand their whitefish salad is addicting). But enough about this whitefish.
They offer a wide variety of bagel flavors and spreads ranging from sweet-OREO cheesecake, to savory-rosemary & garlic. One of their most popular items is their smoked lox bagel sandwich for good reason. IT’S GOOD.
The atmosphere at both locations is like walking into your grandma’s kitchen (but not in an old, out-dated way). It is so warm, friendly and inviting. Their long tables makes it easy for large work groups to gather around and solve the world’s problems, over bagels and coffee or just sit with a friend and meet a stranger and bond over whitefish salad. Okay okay I’m done with the whitefish.
